FAQ

Application

Can you over-apply the mousse?

Applying too much product can result in a greasy or sticky coat.

How long does it take for the mousse to dry?

The time it takes for the product to dry depends on your pet's fur length and texture. The coats are typically dry within a couple of hours.

Should a person wear gloves to apply DOUXO® S3 or DOUXO® products?

DOUXO® S3 products were designed to be safe for dogs, cats and the pet owners who love and care for them.  The formulation experts of Ceva used only essential ingredients and the products are free from soaps, sulfates, parabens, phthalates, colorants and nanoparticles.  The fragrance is hypoallergenic. Gloves are not necessary, but you may consider wearing them while applying the DOUXO® S3 PYO products because of the antiseptic ingredient, chlorhexidine.  Chlorhexidine can cause rare but serious allergic reactions in humans.  If you experience allergy symptoms, discontinue use and seek immediate medical treatment.

Can I use DOUXO® S3 Seb or DOUXO® S3 Calm products long-term?

Yes, these products are safe to use long-term and in fact, regular use of these products may help to reduce or delay the return of problematic skin conditions due to the supportive nature of the product.  We also have DOUXO®  S3 CARE shampoo available for regular grooming.

Can the products be used on pregnant or nursing animals?

DOUXO®  S3 CALM and SEB shampoo and mousse and CARE shampoo products can be used on pregnant dogs or cats.  We do not recommend using the DOUXO® S3 PYO mousse with nursing animals because their puppies or kittens may ingest the product during nursing.  However, you can use the S3 PYO shampoo more frequently with a nursing dog or cat.

Can I use the DOUXO® S3 Mousse on small areas?

Absolutely, the DOUXO® S3 Mousse formulations are well-suited for localized, or smaller areas where a frequent application is necessary.

Can the DOUXO® S3 Mousse be used on cats?

The DOUXO® S3 CALM and SEB mousse products are ideal for use on cats.  The pump is noiseless and the product is easy to apply since it is massaged through the hair.  DOUXO®  S3 PYO mousse is not recommended for cats due to the antiseptic ingredient and cats self-grooming habits.  Ingesting chlorhexidine may be detrimental to cats.

How many applications do you get out of one bottle of mousse?

There are approximately 200 pumps in a bottle.  For a 40 pound dog, this is approximately 20 treatments.  For a 10 pound cat, this is approximately 40 treatments.

Can I use DOUXO® Micellar Solution or DOUXO® S3 PYO Pads on face folds?

Yes, these products can be very effective at cleaning and treating face folds or skin folds. Make sure the animal does not lick the product for approximately 15 minutes after application (or until it dries) to prevent ingestion.  To help prevent this, clean the animal right before feeding, or give the animal a treat right after cleaning to keep them busy!

Does the DOUXO® S3 Mousse leave a residue? Do I have to bathe or rinse my dog after application?

The DOUXO®  S3 Mousse does not leave a residue and is not sticky. Once dry, you may brush the hair coat for extra shine. There is no need to wet, rinse or bathe your dog or cat after applying the mousse.

How often do I use the shampoo and mousse products?

Your veterinarian will advise you when and how often to use the products for your specific pet.   DOUXO® S3 has been clinically proven to be effective with 1 initial shampoo to remove dirt debris and allergens, followed by application of the mousse product every 48-72 hours for 3 weeks.  Results can often be seen within 7 days, with best results achieved after 3 weeks of use.

Safety

If a cat licks the product will it cause issues?

Extensive safety testing has been performed with DOUXO®  S3 products to ensure their safety for dogs and cats and the people that care for them.  The products were extensively tested with double the dosage and no adverse reactions were noted in cats for S3 CALM or SEB Mousse and Shampoo, CARE Shampoo and PYO Shampoo.  We do not recommend using the S3 PYO Mousse on cats due to a concern about cats ingesting the antiseptic ingredient during self-grooming.  S3 PYO pads can be safely used on cats everywhere except between the toes as this skin is very thin and delicate and adverse reactions to the antiseptic ingredient are of concern.

Can I use DOUXO® S3 with other medications?

There are no known contraindications with the use of DOUXO®  S3 products or DOUXO® products with any other medications. However, we recommend that you check with your veterinarian if you have any questions or concerns prior to using the product.

Will DOUXO® S3 or DOUXO® products interfere with antiparasitic spot on medications?

There are no known contraindications to using these products at the same time. However, we recommend waiting 48 hours between using DOUXO® S3 or DOUXO® products and applying the topical parasiticide.

Ingredients

What is OPHYTRIUM™?

Ophytrium (Ophipogon japonicus), is a natural, purified ingredient from the root of what is commonly called monkey grass in the U.S.  It was originally developed by researchers for humans with atopic dermatitis.  Ceva chose this ingredient for DOUXO® S3 due to its excellent safety profile and for its simultaneous action on the three skin barriers.  It is the latest technology available and has been extensively researched and tested by Ceva.

What makes DOUXO® S3 special?

DOUXO® S3 is the first and only veterinary recommended brand that has been completely developed using an extensive client-centric process, taking the specific needs of more than 2000 pet owners and veterinarians into account during the development phase.  In addition to proven efficacy, pet owners and veterinarians want a high level of safety from their dermatopical brand and they want to avoid controversial ingredients.  With this in mind, the formulation experts at Ceva used only essential ingredients and designed DOUXO® S3 to be safe for dogs, cats and the pet owners who care for them.  The DOUXO®  S3 products do not contain any soaps, sulfates, parabens, phthalates, colorants or nanoparticles.  The coconut+vanilla summertime fragrance is hypoallergenic.  After development, the line was then tested in acute conditions with a rigorous protocol to validate safety (more frequent applications and a higher dosage of product).  Well-renowned veterinary dermatologists in Europe then conducted the safety and efficacy studies.  No other topical brand for pets has this level of consumer input or scientific evidence behind it.

Conditions

My dog has a bad odor; can any of the DOUXO® S3 products help?

Some dog breeds have a stronger natural odor than others. Some dogs are also prone to seborrhea and they may produce excess oils (sebum), which can lead to a rancid, unpleasant odor (also called malodor) and a greasy feel.

The DOUXO® S3 SEB line is the only topical product for pets that has been clinically tested to reduce malodor by 91% after 24 days.  This is after using the shampoo once and the mousse product every 2-3 days for 3 weeks.1

If your dog has a strong odor that is not resolved with DOUXO® S3 SEB, contact your veterinarian to discuss possible causes and treatment options.

My dog (or cat) is scratching (or licking) constantly, can any of the DOUXO® S3 products help?

All dogs scratch, but if your dog is scratching excessively, there is probably a medical reason for it that needs to be addressed.  First, contact your veterinarian for an exam to identify the cause of the itching.  Excessive scratching or licking can lead to lesions that can become infected and will need medical treatment.  Both you and your pet will feel better after learning what is causing the symptoms!

The DOUXO® S3 products are formulated to help hydrate the skin and to help protect and restore the skin barrier. S3 CALM and PYO have been shown to reduce the itching.
