Dog

Dog’s skin is different from the human skin.  Baby shampoos are milder than regular human shampoos but are not adapted to dog skin. Their sensitive skin needs high quality products specifically formulated for them like DOUXO® S3 CARE.

  1. Hold the ear flap up gently but firmly to gain access to the ear canal.
  1. Rest the nozzle of the cleaner near the opening of the ear canal and squeeze a small amount of solution into the ear.
  1. Your dog will probably try to shake their head at this point. Maintain a firm grip on the ear flap to avoid your dog shaking ear cleaner all over you. at this point.
  1. Gently massage the base of the ear to help the solution spread through the canal and break up earwax and debris.
  1. Now let them shake their head. This will help debris to come out (away from stain-able furnishings).
  1. Use cotton wool wrapped around your finger to clean the excess product and remove debris from the ear canal and pinna. Remember, do not use cotton wool buds for this!

The frequency with which you need to clean your dogs ears will depend on several factors. Dogs with floppy ears and dogs that like swimming may require more regular cleaning than others. Also, dogs with underlying health conditions that predispose them to ear infections may also benefit from regular ear cleaning. For all other cases ear cleaning can be done on an as and when basis i.e. when the ears are dirty.

Cat shampoos are generally very mild and might not remove grease and dirt from your dog’s skin, especially if your dog has a thick undercoat or long-hair. Ideally use a dog shampoo or a shampoo adapted to both species, like DOUXO® S3 CARE.

You should not use human dry shampoos as they may contain some ingredients not suitable for a dog’s skin. There are dry shampoos specifically formulated for dogs available on the market.

Some dogs have very clean ears that require no cleaning. If you notice that your dog has very dirty or waxy ears it is a good idea to clean them using an ear cleaner specifically formulated for dogs. You should never clean your dog’s ears if they are red, itchy or if there is a foul smell coming from them as there may be an infection present which will need to be treated by a vet.

A specific ear cleaner for dog’s should be used as these products have been designed to be well tolerated by your pet and tested to be effective at removing canine ear wax (cerumen).

There are a number of notable differences between dog and human skin which include, skin thickness and pH. It is important that you use a shampoo that has been specifically designed for using in dogs, such as DOUXO® S3 CARE. This will minimise the risk of any side effects or intolerances occurring as some human products contain ingredients that can be irritating and drying to dog skin.

It is perfectly okay to bathe a pregnant dog but it is important not to stress her in the process of bathing her. It is particularly important to ensure that there is a non-slip surface to prevent any falls that may cause injury.

Many anti-parasitic shampoos are not recommended for pregnant dogs, so also be mindful about the product you are using, and if you have any concerns, contact your veterinarian for advice.

Cat

There are dry shampoos available for cats but these may not be as effective as shampoos that require bathing. Spot bathing or brushing may be more appropriate in these circumstances. There are also mousse formulations that can be left on your cat that don't require water.

Cats generally don't need bathing as they are very good at keeping themselves clean. Cats only need bathing on an as and when needed basis i.e. if they are particularly dirty.

It depends on the composition of the dog shampoo. Flea shampoos for dogs are generally not suitable for cats and sometimes even poisonous to them.  It is better to use gentle shampoos formulated for both species, like DOUXO® S3 CARE.
