Cat shampoo review

The Great Barrier Reef is the earth's largest living structure, but how is it similar to the skin barrier of your pet?

Its fragile ecosystem of hundreds of corals has been massively impacted by small changes to our environment, temperatures and pH levels, which together with

bacteria and allergens also have negative impact on the sensitive skin of your cat.

Protecting the great barrier reef is protecting the earth, protecting your cat's skin barrier is protecting its health. That's why it's essential that you choose the right skin care product for your cat's sensitive skin.

Not all hygiene or grooming products are created equal

It is important to use a good quality product that is formulated specifically for pets. Pets’ skin is sensitive, thinner and has a different pH than human skin. Do not use a human shampoo, let alone dish soap to clean your cat. They are too harsh for a cat’s skin, may dry it out excessively and damage the skin barrier.

Discover here how to choose your cat shampoo.

Always protect the mechanical skin barrier

The outer layer of your cat's skin is made with corneocytes (dead cells full of keratin) glued together by lipids. This cohesiveness is essential for the skin to act as a mechanical barrier giving your pet a first line of defence against physical trauma, bacteria, allergens (such as pollen) and other pathogens that can be damaging. It also retains moisture and prevents your cat's skin from being dry, itchy and irritated.

Choose a shampoo that contains precursor of lipids to support the cohesion of the mechanical skin barrier and that moisturizes your dog's skin. The entire DOUXO® range contains an important molecule called Phytosphingosine. It is a key player in many skin functions as well as helping to maintain this vital barrier.

Respect your cat's skin pH

The healthy feline skin is acid trend with an average pH of 6,4. An acidic pH of the skin surface helps to maintain the integrity and cohesiveness of the skin barrier and to control the balance of skin microflora.

DOUXO® products are formulated with a pH adapted to the skin of your cat which keeps the flora of the skin balanced.

Avoid skin inflammation

Any defect in the skin barrier will create skin inflammation by activation of the skin defense cells. Your cat will become itchy and may develop excessive grooming what will worsen the skin problem.

To avoid any skin barrier defect it's essential to choose a shampoo that protects the skin barrier, soothes and hydrates the skin as DOUXO®  shampoos.
