How can phytosphingosine reach the skin when applied on hair?

Thanks to an anionic excipient, the active ingredients are fixed to the skin by electrostatic bonds. Phytosphingosine is lipophilic and later migrates to the surface lipidic film covering the skin and hairs. It can then enter the intercellular lipid cement

If a cat licks it is it poisonous?

No, DOUXO® products can safely be used on dogs and cats even if they lick their coats when it’s dry.

Should a person wear gloves to apply?

It is not necessary to wear gloves to apply our DOUXO® products. Relevant studies allow us to use the product without gloves. Wash hands is recommended after using shampoos and mousses to remove remaining product as you do it for any other vet product.

If you are hypersensitive to one of the ingredients or to any of the excipients, do not use the products. The “risky ingredients” clearly appear on the label (ex: DOUXO® Seb Shampoo).

Can I use DOUXO® Seb Shampoo or DOUXO® Calm Shampoo in the long term as a maintenance shampoo?

Yes, they can be used safely in the long term. Both products contain active ingredients which help protecting the skin barrier ecosystem and maintain skin balance.

What is the shelf life of the DOUXO® products after opening?

DOUXO® Seb Spot-on pipettes are stable for up to 10 days after opening. DOUXO®  Pads will stay wet for 3 months after opening. All other DOUXO® products remain stable for 1 year after opening.

Is it contraindicated with any other medicines?

No, there is no contraindication with other medications, whether topical, oral or injectable.

Is it safe to apply on puppies and kittens?

Question about DOUXO® labelling

Why are there signs on DOUXO® labels?

Question of regulation. There is no cosmetics  in veterinary medicine. As there is no specific regulation, they are considered as chemical mixtures (as detergent) and that’s why the pet skin care can have warning signs.

Are all products subject to the same regulation?

There are 2 types : drugs and others. Drugs = no signs. Others = yes, all have signs, excepted complementary feed (feed & food) which has their own regulation.

Some hazardous signs appear on some labels. How can it be safe to put on my pet or on my hands?

Those signs are a warning for irritation in eyes and impact on the environment for people who don’t bath their pet in a bathtub.

All our DOUXO® products have been tested on skin with an official test (Prediskin = In vitro Skin Irritation: Reconstructed Human Epidermis Test Method) which permits to avoid any warnings about skin contact. Those products have been tested in several clinical studies (7 different studies, 287 dogs in total) and they are sold in the USA and France since 2006. You can consider that they have been very-well tested.

What happens if I get it in my pet’s eyes?

Follow the labels instructions: rinse immediately with plenty of water. Please seek advice from your veterinarian and show him the bottle.

Why would I put an irritant on already itchy & irritated skin?

It’s only irritant for the eyes like human cosmetics. Our safety on itchy and irritated skin has been proven in our clinical studies.

DOUXO® Mousse

What is the base of DOUXO® Mousse?

The base of DOUXO® Mousse is either a micellar solution (DOUXO®  Pyo  and Seb) or an emulsion (DOUXO® Calm). They all contain foaming ingredients but what creates the foam is the special pump delivery system.

There is no gaz in the bottle so the delivery is silent and doesn’t afraid your pet. That’s why he will love it.

Does it contain alcohol?

No, there is no alcohol in any of DOUXO® Mousse products. It doesn’t sting, that’s why your pet will love it.

Will it make an animal greasy?

No, DOUXO® Mousse will not make the animal greasy. Even if it is over-applied, DOUXO®  Mousse will dry. DOUXO®  Mousse contains cosmetic ingredients to let the coat shiny and without any residue. As the massage can untangle the hair, we recommend to brush your pet’s coat once the mousse has dried.

If a cat licks, it is it poisonous?

DOUXO®  Mousse do not contain any ingredient that may be harmful if swallowed. However, it is recommended to prevent the animal from licking or grooming just after application to allow time for the product to dry. Otherwise the Mousse will be eliminated and will not act.

To occupy your pet you can walk, play with him or feed him after application.

Is it safe to apply on pregnant or nursing animals?

DOUXO®  Mousse do not contain any ingredient that is contraindicated in pregnant or nursing animals. However, we have not achieved any safety study in pregnant or lactating female, nor nursing animals.

Can you over apply?

Yes, there is no toxicity. Over applying will result in a very wet and sometimes matted hair (for long hair). It won’t be more profitable for your pet’s coat so we recommend you to follow the instructions. What will be more profitable will be to repeat the applications every 3 days.

Can DOUXO® Mousse be used on cats?

Yes any of the DOUXO®  Mousse can be used in cats. It is non-toxic, the pump makes no noise and the product is pleasant to apply since it is massaged through the hair. DOUXO® Mousse is a very-well adaptated alternative to shampoos which can be a nightmare in cats.

Can I use DOUXO® Mousse in small areas?

Yes, DOUXO®  Mousse formulations are very convenient for localized areas where application may be difficult. Your finger can easily apply it between the toes and pads. The product can also be used on the whole body if needed

Does DOUXO® Mousse leave a residue? Do I have to bathe or rinse my dog after?

DOUXO®  Mousse leaves no residue and is not sticky. Once dry, you may brush the animal for further luster. There is no need to wet, rinse or bathe the animal. You don’t need to go in the bathroom. You can apply it in a comfortable place for your pet in order for him to have pleasure.

DOUXO® Pyo Range

Why is it dangerous for the environment?

No, the only risk is if there is product poured in the aquarium

If I rinse my dog in the garden, is there any risk for my vegetables garden?

Skin Condition

My dog smells...

Some dog breeds have a stronger « natural » odor than others. Some individuals are also prone to seborrhea: the surface lipidic film is produced in abundance and gets oxidized. This can lead to rancid odors, a greasy feel and potential skin infections. Your dog should be bathed regularly (once a week or every other week) with DOUXO® Seb shampoo. A detergent shampoo is too aggressive and will lead to rebound seborrhea, defeating the original purpose.
If the odor is strong, unusual and has occurred recently, your dog may have a skin condition. It is recommended to consult your veterinarian.

My cat loses her hairs

Like every mammal, cats and dogs lose their hair periodically, in Spring and Autumn. However, in our homes where temperatures are rather constant, natural cycles tend to disappear and animals shed their hairs all year long. In order to limit shedding, regular brushing and nutritional supplements for the skin give good results.
If your animal has excessive hair loss, it may be because of scratching or intense licking. Sometimes, the hair may not regrow because of a disease of the hair follicle. In this case, examination by a veterinarian is recommended.
Note: even after a skin condition has resolved, a hair can take 20 days to grow!

My dog has dandruff.

Several skin conditions can lead to dandruff: allergy, parasites, endocrine disorders etc…
In order to control the production of dandruff, it is possible to use a medicated shampoo on a regular basis. However, examination by a veterinarian is necessary to determine the cause and help manage dandruff in the long term.
